Leaders Read#47

👋 Hello everyone,

Here are a couple of posts you might have missed:

📚 Book Summary:

This week's book is "The Power of Full Engagement" by Jim Loehr & Tony Schwartz

The book highlights that you need to manage your energy over your time. You need the emotional, mental, and physical energy; you can't just make these things up because you have put too much on your calendar. It is a process, and it starts by changing your priorities and implementing better rituals.

One of my favorite take aways from the book is this:

"Imagine, for a moment, that you are out on the sea in a boat that springs a leak. Your purpose immediately becomes mobilized around keeping the boat from sinking. But so long as you are busy bailing water, you can't navigate towards a destination. The same is true in our lives. When we are preoccupied with filling our own holes to stay afloat, we have little energy available to define any deeper or more enduring purpose."

✅ Actionable advice:

The leaking boat represents daily crises, while bailing water symbolizes the energy expended to stay afloat. As a leader, your role is to stop bailing, detach from the chaos, and prioritize what is urgent and important—this is the best use of a leader’s energy. Next, identify what can be delegated. Effective leaders proactively establish these priorities before rolling up their sleeves and getting busy bailing water. In the end, the goal is to free up time and energy to focus on your deeper purpose and navigate towards the long-term vision.
