Leaders Read#58

👋 Hello everyone,

Jim Rohn said, “It is our decisions, not the conditions of our lives, that determine our destiny.”

Here are a couple of resources you might have missed:

📚 Book Summary:

This week's book is "Yes or No" by Spencer Johnson.

This is a classic book about making better decisions. It’s a quick read that, through storytelling, follows the journey of a young man as he learns the principles of problem-solving. The principles are applicable not only for work but also for everyday life.

One of my favorite takeaways from the book is this:

"I avoid indecisions and half-decisions based on half-truths. I use both parts of a reliable system to consistently make better decisions: a cool head and a warm heart. I use my head by asking myself a practical question, and I consult my heart by asking myself a private question. Then, after I listen to myself and others, I make a better decision and act on it."

✅ Actionable advice:

Making decisions as a leader is one of the most challenging tasks; you never have enough information. To bridge the gap between a cool head and a warm heart, consider these questions: 1)What decision will give you the most flexibility later? Since you can't see into the future, choose options that allow for adjustments or changes. 2)Can you treat the decision as an experiment? Remember, most decisions are reversible. Which leads to 3)What is your contingency plan? Just like climbers on Mount Everest set a time to change their decision to reach the peak and return to base camp, decide in advance when you will pivot or stop. This is the philosophy of "quit to fight another day."
