👋 Hello everyone,
Abby Wambach says, 'Lead from the bench.' Today's newsletter is a reminder for strong leaders and dedicated to inspiring young women.
Here are a couple of resources you might have missed:
📚 Book Summary:
This week's book is "Wolfpack" by Abby Wambach.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion, Abby Wambach, shares her great insights from a great career. This is a quick read—I finished it in one sitting. The book shows great leadership and highlights crucial points about the equality gap between men and women. As a father of four daughters, this book had a meaningful impact on me.
One of my favorite takeaways from the book is this:
"You'll feel benched sometimes. You'll find yourself taken off the project, passed over for the promotion, falling sick, losing the election, sidelined by the kid who doesn't seem to need you anymore. You might find yourself holding a baby instead of a briefcase and fearing that your colleagues are "getting ahead" and leaving you behind. Here's what's important: You are allowed to be disappointed when it feels like life's benched you. What you aren't allowed to do is miss your opportunity to lead from the bench. If you're not a leader on the bench, don't call yourself a leader on the field. You're either a leader everywhere or nowhere."
✅ Actionable advice:
Leaders stand out because of their actions, not their titles. True leadership is demonstrated through tough decisions, especially when things aren't going well. As Abby so well says above, is what President Harry S. Truman reminded himself with his "The buck stops here" sign on his desk in the White House. Make leadership part of your values and principles; make it part of your mantra. When you feel benched, this is the fuel to carrier you forward.
