Leaders Read#63

👋 Hello everyone,

Colin Powell said, "The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting above average effort.

Here are a couple of resources you might have missed:

📚 Book Summary:

This week's book is "Creative Confidence" by Tom and David Kelly.

This book provides a compelling case for why innovation is needed inside your company. It also provides some good examples that could be used on team offsites if you need to stir up some innovation. One of the book's standout messages is how to weave innovation into your daily work so you can remain agile and competitive.

One of my favorite takeaways from the book is this:

"No company that falls behind the competition is guilty of standing completely still. But sometimes, our efforts fail because of the level of commitment to change. "I'll try" can become a half-hearted promise of follow-through rather than decisive action."

✅ Actionable advice:

Leaders quickly acknowledge that change is difficult, only to get caught up in their busy to-dos, not carving out time to think and develop great strategies. This is Nokia's focus on customer preferences for durable devices versus Apple's iPhone or Intel being stuck on data centers and GPU versus Nvidia winning on AI. Even as a middle manager, when was the last time you took time to create resolute action plans to ensure your unit is aligned with the company's mission to drive growth? Don't make excuses; get an hour on your calendar and at least do a bit of reflection.
