Leaders Read#64

👋 Hello everyone,

Barack Obama said, “Learning to stand in somebody else’s shoes, to see through their eyes, that’s how peace begins. And it’s up to you to make that happen. Empathy is a quality of character that can change the world.”

Here are four resources you might have missed:

📚 Book Summary:

This week's book is "A guide to the good life" by Wiliam B. Irvine.

Many of us agree that our lives are increasingly busy and stressful. As leaders, we long to slow down, relax, and recharge, but it’s challenging with all the responsibilities. How can we succeed in such a demanding environment? Is it even worth it? Are we truly pursuing what we want? In William B. Irvine’s book, you’ll discover Stoicism—an ancient philosophy dating back to the Roman Empire that offers practical answers and guidance, helping you rethink what’s truly important in life.

One of my favorite takeaways from the book is this:

"Marcus Aurelias recommends that when we interact with an annoying person, we keep in mind that there are doubtless people who find us to be annoying. More generally, when we find ourselves irritated by someone’s shortcomings, we should pause to reflect on our own shortcomings."

✅ Actionable advice:

As a leader, your primary role is to engage, help, and serve people. Despite your busy schedule, when your boss, peers, or team members come to you, see it as an opportunity to fulfill the job you signed up for. Also, don’t forget to celebrate these moments when you pause and reflect with empathy; it demonstrates your growth mindset and fosters a stronger, more productive environment for everyone.
